Kobe is a rare city in Japan that has grown as an international port town. For centuries, it has embraced influences from overseas, creating a unique atmosphere where Japanese and Western cultures naturally blend together. Just next to Kobe lies Nada Gogō, one of Japan’s most famous sake-producing regions. In places where sake culture thrives, food that pairs well with alcohol has always evolved alongside it—and yakitori is one of those dishes. Fragrant charcoal-grilled yakitori and crisp, clean Japanese sake. This pairing was not created by chance; it was nurtured naturally through Kobe’s history and way of life. An international port city, a deep sake tradition, and yakitori culture. Because all of these elements come together in Kobe, a yakitori experience here becomes more than just a meal—it becomes a cultural experience. If you’re going to experience yakitori, Kobe may actually be the most logical place to do it.We invite you to discover why.

The Culture of Yakitori in Japan

What Yakitori Means in Japanese Food Culture

Yakitori holds a special place in Japanese food culture. It is not considered fine dining, yet it has been loved for generations as an everyday dish that brings people together. Each part of the chicken is carefully cut, skewered by hand, and grilled slowly over charcoal.Behind this seemingly simple process lies a level of craftsmanship and experience that is far more delicate than it appears. Yakitori has also evolved as a dish meant to be enjoyed with drinks. Beer, sake, or shochu—yakitori pairs effortlessly with any glass. This versatility and balance are at the heart of yakitori culture. In this experience, you do more than just eat. You take part in skewering, grilling, and savoring— a hands-on moment of craftsmanship and enjoyment that defines true yakitori culture.
